Fred Taylor was (ahem) uncooperative…

by John Miller

Ok, the other day the Palm Beach Post reported Fred Taylort was arrested last Friday night for his role in a disturbance at a Miami nightclub. Then his agent shot back, saying “It’s nothing more than a ticket… He was never formally arrested,” So everyone (including us) just assumed Taylor was probably some sort of buzzed peacemaker in a bar brawl. Maybe a little pushing and shoving, nothing big. But today it’s spinning in a different direction. From the AP:  “Jaguars running back Fred Taylor was ordered out of his car at gunpoint, patted down and handcuffed while a K-9 unit searched his vehicle for drugs outside a Miami Beach nightclub over the weekend, according to a police report released Tuesday.”  It goes on to say that Taylor “yelled at officers repeatedly.”

Uh, that’s a little different than a “ticket.” Sounds like Freddy was nothing short of drunk and almost got himself Tasered.  Don’t yell at a police officer. You’re asking for more trouble than you are prepared for.

Doesn’t it seem like most of the NFL arrests the last few years can be traced back to the “player’s coach” (?).  They were talking about this on FOX Radio. Think about it: Cincinnati/Marvin Lewis, Tennessee/Jeff Fisher and Jacksonville/Jack Del Rio are all dropping names on the police blotter regularly. They’ve lost control of their young men off the field. The saltier, old-school, “I’m not your friend and I could cut you tomorrow“ coaches like Mike Shanahan and Bill Belichick aren’t having this problem.
